Pastor Augustus "Gus" Henderson Rev_Henderson

Reverend Augustus Henderson has served as Pastor of The Christian Way Baptist Church, Falls Church, Virginia since September 1995

A native of Arlington, Virginia (Green Valley), his wife Jacqueline, their three children Joshua Augustus, Aaron Timothy, and Jordan Matthew Peele currently reside in Fort Washington, Maryland. Pastor Henderson is a graduate of Wilbur H. Waters School of Religion and Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., where he is a former Instructor and received his Master of Theological Degree in May, 2011. In October 2011 received an award from the school for distinguishing himself in the faith community reflecting positively upon the school. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors.

He was licensed to preach the Gospel in June 1980 under the leadership of Dr. Carroll Baltimore, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and was Ordained in June 1994 at MPBC.

Pastor Henderson has allowed the Holy Spirit to guide him as Pastor of Christian Way Baptist Church. Under his pastorate Christian Way Baptist Church has changed all departments, boards and auxiliaries to ministries with the focus on Service. The following ministries were formed: Marriage and Family Enrichment, Women's Ministry, Men's Ministry, Singles Ministry, Prison Ministry, and the Youth Ministry. Christian Way website has also been formed.

The first Minister of Music was appointed and the Gospel Chorus was formed. Under his Leadership the first revival was held, retreats formed for the Men, Women and Youth to include a co-ed retreat with churches from the areas of North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Many laymen have been trained to teach and are using their gifts outside of CWBC in serving others.

Pastor Henderson is serving as First-Vice Moderator for the Northern Virginia Baptist Association. He served as President of The Baptist Ministers Conference of Northern Virginia and Vicinity from September 2006 to July 2008. He served two terms as 1st Vice President and one term as 2nd Vice President. Pastor Henderson served as Secretary and Financial Secretary of the Baptist Ministers Conference of the City of Alexandria and Vicinity. He has been appointed to the Ordination Council and elected to the Executive Board for the Northern Virginia Baptist Association. He has been appointed to the Executive Board of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Northern Virginia and Vicinity for 2 Presidents.

Pastor Henderson has a burden for young people. He coached youth basketball for more than 10 years and baseball for 3 years. He was involved in many activities at Oxon Hill High School and Oxon Hill Middle School where he received the Volunteer of the Year Award serving as the Mentor Coordinator and Boys Basketball Coach. At Oxon Hill High School, he held memberships in several groups and served as President of the Oxon Hill High School Boys Basketball Parent Support group for three years.
